Health authorities in the US are observing travelers evacuated from the MV Hondius cruise liner after a potential hantavirus outbreak during its Atlantic journey. Seventeen American travelers were transported from Tenerife to the University of Nebraska Medical Center, which hosts the only federally supported quarantine facility in the country. The CDC indicated that those who did not have close interactions with symptomatic individuals are deemed low risk. The quarantine duration may extend up to 42 days, with at least seven more passengers under observation in various US states. Officials reiterate that hantavirus transmission is significantly less prevalent than that of Covid-19.
