“Bengaluru Turning Unsafe?”: Auto Driver Chased and Beaten With Rods in Broad Daylight

A shocking incident of daylight violence in Bengaluru has triggered widespread concern after an auto-rickshaw driver was allegedly dragged out of his vehicle and brutally assaulted by two men near C College, Devasandra, under the jurisdiction of KR Puram Police Station.<br /><br />The victim, identified as Venkatesh Papayya, a resident of the Seegehalli Slum Board area, was reportedly attacked around 2:30 p.m. on Friday shortly after dropping passengers.<br /><br />According to reports, two men identified as Dilip and Likeesh from Basavanapura village, said to be known rowdies with multiple criminal cases against them, approached the auto driver while allegedly under the influence of alcohol and ganja.<br /><br />Sources said the accused demanded money and alcohol from Venkatesh. When he refused and claimed he had no cash, the duo allegedly turned violent.<br /><br />The attackers reportedly used cutting pliers and screwdrivers taken from the auto-rickshaw to assault him inside the vehicle. In an attempt to save himself, Venkatesh jumped out of the auto and tried to escape.<br /><br />However, the accused allegedly chased him on the road and continued attacking him with wooden sticks and iron rods in full public view. CCTV footage and videos of the incident reportedly captured the entire sequence.<br /><br />Witnesses said the victim folded his hands and pleaded with the attackers to stop, but the assault continued. At one point, the attackers allegedly struck him with such force that the wooden sticks broke.<br /><br />Locals who witnessed the attack were left terrified and reportedly did not intervene. Some residents described the brutality as resembling scenes from an action film.<br /><br />Bystanders later alerted the police, and the injured driver was shifted for treatment. Reports suggest that he sustained serious injuries but is now out of danger.<br /><br />A complaint has been registered at KR Puram Police Station, and police have launched an investigation.
