The only instrumental track from the first Jimi Hendrix LP, Are You Experienced. The album helped define the psychedelic sound, and "Third Stone from the Sun" explored the enormous surrealistic potential in this form of music. A great album, but definitely one of the better tracks on it. Certainly, one of my favorites, this is my third Jimi Hendrix video since "The Wind Cries Mary" in 2022.<br /><br />The song, the first recording for the album, begun as a demo in December 1966 with the actual track completed in April 1967, was based on science fiction concepts, the "third stone from the sun," of course being Earth. And we do see elements of this in my video in places, mostly later on. But the spoken line by Hendrix (playing an alien) that always got me was "And you will never hear surf music again." Some parts of the music, ironically, are perfect to be used as "psychedelic surf rock" so part of my video addresses this. The song also has some seriously strange documentary potential (documentary as surrealism).
