Beachgoers Flee as Two Sea Lions Charge Through The Crowd

WITH VID

BY SALONI MATHUR

A peaceful day at the beach took a dramatic turn when two male sea lions burst out of the water and charged across a crowded stretch of sand, sending people scrambling out of their way.
The startling incident was filmed by Dion Ruzicka at Löyly Sauna Lounge in Houston, Texas.

The footage shows the sea lions emerging from the water and moving quickly through a beach packed with sunbathers.
As the animals charge across the sand, panic spreads, with people running in all directions to avoid their path.

After clearing a route through the crowd, the two sea lions head back into the water, leaving the shaken beachgoers behind.
While the encounter appeared alarming, the animals did not seem to be deliberately attacking people.

Marine mammals such as sea lions occasionally come ashore to rest or move between areas, and can become defensive or aggressive if they feel crowded or threatened.
Wildlife experts recommend keeping a safe distance and allowing them plenty of space to pass.

Dion said: “Nobody had to tell anyone to run.
“The moment the sea lion came onto the beach, people’s nervous systems recognised a potential threat and they moved.

“This is your survival system at work.

“Long before you’re consciously aware, your nervous system is constantly asking: “Am I safe?”

“Understanding that response is the first step to learning how to regulate it instead of being controlled by it.”

ENDS
