Easter Egg Disney Reference In Chrono Trigger ('95)? Kingdom Hearts, Super Eurobeat & Ninja Gaiden

A possible future easter egg reference to Walt Disney may appear in the opening to the Japanese 1995 Square RPG video game Chrono Trigger. You can see this in the central market area of the Leene Square / Millennial Fair in 1000AD. There you will find a pink balloon over the stalls in the shape of the head of Disney's Mickey Mouse. Square would later team up with Disney on the Kingdom Hearts RPG in 2002 combining their game characters over the years with Disney cartoon favorites such as Goofy & Donald Duck. No Chrono Trigger characters appeared in the series of 14 games as of 2025 but a 15th game has been announced with an undetermined release date in the future.
Chrono Trigger featured work by some of the top RPG staff of the time including Final Fantasy's Hironobu Sakaguchi, Dragon Quest's Yuji Horii & character designs by Dragonball mangaka Akira Toriyama.

This video comes way of related research (please see my other videos on the subject) I had compiled looking at TECMO's Ninja Gaiden games. Masato Kato was writer on the trilogy of NES / Famicom adaptations and later worked for Square on Chrono Trigger. Interestingly, there are apparent references to the Lupin III anime films in the 1988 Ninja Gaiden arcade game and Masato Kato had also worked with animation studio Gainax on The Secret Of Blue Water (Nadia) games. Japan's own Walt Disney, Hayao Miyazaki was a co-creator on NADIA.

Avex's Super Eurobeat music series also fits into these connections: They produced a special Eurobeat Disney tribute in 2000, remixing the well known songs of the films and TV series. What sounds like samples from BGM music in Ninja Gaiden may also be heard on future Eurobeat CD's.
