Another in the series from the Amarillo College Natural History Museum. This time the Ships-in-Bottles Collection. What a treat to have included in the Maritime Gallery a fine collection of Ships-in-Bottles.

These examples were made by the same master modeler who built all the scale ship models in the Maritime Gallery. The designs were taken from a set done in the 1920's by the builder's grandfather.

The art of building ship models in bottles dates back at least 200 years to sailors who occupied free time by such art works.

The model is built out side the bottle and then inserted through the bottle neck in a folded down position. When in the bottle it is glued in place and rigging lines are pulled erecting the masts and sails. Not an easy task.
