Search for Afghanistan Avalanche Survivors Continues

Rescue workers are still pulling frozen bodies out of the snow. <br /><br />Three days after avalanches engulfed the Salang Pass, Afghanistan's mountain highway through the Hindu Kush. <br /><br />At least a 100 people are dead but local Afghan authorities fear scores more lie buried in their vehicles. <br /><br />[Abdul Basir Salangi, Provincial Governor]: <br />"The death toll is going to soar. As we see, many people are still trapped under the snow. The avalanche was very powerful." <br /><br />The highway was congested with traffic when the avalanches struck, trapping thousands in their vehicles. <br /><br />Afghan soldiers were rushed to the mountain pass. <br /><br />They dug a corridor through the snow along miles of blocked cars and buses, opening a precious lifeline. <br /><br />So far, more than 2,500 people have been rescued in the massive recovery operation. <br /><br />Despite the freezing conditions in the Pass, the rescuers haven't given up hope of finding more survivors. <br /><br />A moment of joy as one little girl is found alive. <br /><br />The 9-year-old, though dazed, seems to be in good health in spite of her ordeal. <br /><br />A short time later, rescuers dug out another survivor - a man this time - dug out of this overturned bus at the bottom of a gorge.
