The trial of a former presidential candidate in Sri Lanka moves forward today. General Sarath Fonseka is under arrest for planning a conspiracy against the country’s current president.<br /><br />Fonseka quit the army to enter the presidential election last month, in which he lost to Mahinda Rajapaksa.<br /><br />After losing the election, Fonseka accused Rajapaksa of vote rigging, and wanted to challenge the results in court.<br /><br />The presidential campaign turned bitter and personal, with Fonseka and Rajapaksa trading allegations of corruption and misconduct.
