Danish Prime Minister Visits Japan

The Danish Prime Minister is in Japan for bilateral talks and climate change issues. The Denmark PM says he wants wants to work with Japan in creating green technologies.<br /><br />Danish Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen arrived in Tokyo on Sunday for a four-day visit. On Monday, he met with Japan Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama for bilateral talks and international issues such as climate change.<br /><br />Rasmussen says that Denmark hoped to enhance cooperation with Japan in developing eco-friendly technologies.<br /><br />[Lars Lokke Rasmussen, Danish Prime Minister]: (Male, English)<br />"This is indeed an area where we have a lot of similarities between Denmark and Japan. Both countries are very energy efficient - Japan is No. 1 and we're No. 2 - and I look into this area and see an area that we can enhance our cooperation in the future." <br /><br />Last January, Japan submitted a plan to the U.N. Climate Change Secretariat to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 25 percent by 2020.<br /><br />[Lars Lokke Rasmussen, Danish Prime Minister]: (Male, English)<br />"I believe the ambitious target and the proactive effort to transform Japanese economy into a green economy is an inspiration for us all." <br /><br />Japan had hoped to play a big negotiating role at the Copenhagen climate talks in December with its target.<br /><br />Rasmussen is visiting Japan for the first time as prime minister.
