Space age speed suits for greyhounds which deliver less wind resistance and improve track times have hit the headlines this week and could soon be commonplace on greyhound tracks across the UK.
A leading greyhound trainer, working in partnership with a UK sportswear designer, has developed a prototype of the cutting edge suit, which tests have shown can improve race times by up to 15%.
Diane Henry, an up and coming young trainer who has recently won the William Hill Puppy Derby with her Derby hope Ten Large Down, has now presented the suit to the Greyhound Board of Great Britain (GBGB) for approval for use on the sports regulated tracks.
The controversial speed suits used by swimmers have recently been banned in some countries. But athletes have used similar suits to maintain optimum body temperature and massage the muscles throughout a race, often providing significantly improved performance.
