Jenson Button knows he will need to find the right balance when it comes to his tyre strategy as he bids for a second win of the season at this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix.

The reigning world champion made the right call to make an early tyre switch at the Australian Grand Prix last month which helped him to victory in Melbourne.

However, a decision to once again pit early ultimately proved his undoing in Malaysia two weeks ago as he struggled to get the better of the Ferraris for much of the race and finished eighth.

"I have chosen my direction in the last two races of stopping early and doing 40-50 laps on one set of tyres. I think it works sometimes but you have to be careful as well," he said.

"You need to look after your tyres but again you cannot be too careful, so it is having a balance and I think I am raising my aggressiveness with the tyre while some people are coming back down with their aggressiveness."

Button made a 14,000 mile round trip to the UK after the Malaysian Grand Prix to spend time in the simulator at the McLaren factory looking to iron out the remaining concerns he has with the MP4-25.

The 30-year-old believes he now has a better understanding of his car and is confident he will feel completely happy in it when the Formula One paddock heads to Europe after this weekend's race.

"When I drove in the simulator I started with the set-up in Malaysia then changed it and improved it by quite a bit," he added.

"I am almost there. There are a couple of things we are working on but once I get to Barcelona I would like to believe that I will have everything that I want to feel 100 per cent."
