<p><br /> A team of 30 Spanish doctors claim to have successfully performed the world's first full face transplant.<br /> </p><p><br /> The ground-breaking operation was carried out last month in Barcelona on a man whose face had been disfigured in an accident.<br /> </p><p><br /> While face transplants have been carried out in the past they have only ever been partial.<br /> </p><p><br /> The unnamed patient has received an entirely new face, including skin, muscle tissue, lips, nose, jaw, teeth, and cheek bones.<br /> </p><p><br /> The patient's face was injured in an accident five years ago which left him unable to swallow, speak, or breathe properly.<br /> </p><p><br /> The patient contacted surgeons after being inspired by the case of Isabelle Dinoire, the French woman who received the first partial face transplant in 2005.<br /> </p>
