1. Despite fending off Ernests Gulbis in four sets at the U.S. Open early Saturday morning, Andy Roddick's overtly stressful second-round match was an ominous sign the world has caught up.

2. He is not the more complete player. He is a terrible match player.

He used to destroy Djokovic in practice sessions but could never translate that to actual match play. So Nole has a winning record against him where it counts.

Certainly Gulbis has talent but that counts for little if you panic in winning situations. And he always has done. He has infuriated me for two years now.

Roddick's game is limited but he maximizes his talent. Gulbis is the exact opposite.
