<p><br /> The United Nations Security Council voted in favour of new sanctions against Iran over its nuclear programme, that Western powers suspect is aimed at developing atomic weapons.<br /> </p><p><br /> The Security Council resolution calls for measures against new Iranian banks abroad if a connection to the nuclear programme is suspected.<br /> </p><p><br /> It also expands a UN arms embargo against Tehran and blacklists firms that are aiding the nuclear enrichment.<br /> </p><p><br /> The 15-nation council met to vote on a draft resolution that is the product of five months of talks between the US, Britain, France, Germany, China and Russia.<br /> </p><p><br /> European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said she was ready to meet Iran's nuclear negotiator to discuss its enrichment programme.<br /> </p><p><br /> Ali Asghar Soltanieh, Iran's envoy to the UN in Vienna, said: "Nothing will change. The Islamic Republic of Iran will continue uranium enrichment activities."<br /> </p>
