<p><br /> Eastenders actress Barbara Windsor has been granted the Freedom of the City of London.<br /> </p><p><br /> The soap favourite, who made her West End debut at the age of 13, is also renowned for her role in the Carry On films.<br /> </p><p><br /> Born in Shoreditch, the 72-year-old actress said she was thrilled to be given the key: "I am a true, true Londoner. I love London and I love it with a passion and I'm just so honoured", she said.<br /> </p><p><br /> It is believed that the first Freedom was presented in 1237 and there are a number of rights traditionally associated with Freemen.<br /> </p><p><br /> Asked whether Barbara knew of her rights, she said: "I've heard I can get rat-a**ed and I won't get nicked, but the tragedy is I don't drink anymore".<br /> </p><p><br /> Barbara, who filmed her final scenes as Peggy Mitchell last month, will be appearing in the Dick Whittington pantomime at the Bristol Hippodrome later this year.<br /> </p>
