Initially, there was some doubt as to how the games will be organized, but after seeing the opening ceremony it seems the games will go well."<br /><br />Security personnel were on high alert during the day, with police deployed near the stadium and around the city.<br /><br />The build up to the beginning of the Games was tarnished by a series of setbacks, including the shooting of two tourists blamed on militants, the collapse of a bridge near the stadium, and complaints about the cleanliness of the athletes' village.<br /><br />Some athletes chose to withdraw from the Games, citing security and health concerns.<br /><br />Organizers are hoping to shake off the events of the last few weeks, as the sporting competition takes place over the next 11 days.
