<p><br /> Hundreds of climate change protesters have attempted to blockade fuel tankers at a major refinery<br /> </p><p><br /> The demonstration began on Saturday morning, when 12 women handcuffed themselves to lorries parked to deliberately block the main road leading to the refinery in Coryton, Essex.<br /> </p><p><br /> Demonstrators tried to stop traffic getting to and from the site which they accuse of exacerbating climate change, said a spokesman for the Crude Awakening demonstration.<br /> </p><p><br /> Hundreds more protesters had descended on the site by Saturday afternoon, when a heavy police presence was also in evidence.<br /> </p><p><br /> The refinery's operator, Petroplus, said deliveries were operating normally.<br /> </p>
