We have witnessed perpetual defamations against this global religion. Governments and media have formulated strategies to degrade Islam, to portray its followers as irrational terrorists and paint it as an outdated way of life that has failed to survive the test of time. Its mosques and minarets are said to be a cause of symbolic political concern and its values have been downplayed due to their incompatibility with Western ideals. More recently, the Muslim woman's dress code has been regarded not only as an expression of cultural oppression but lo and behold, we are told that it also poses a security risk! Why have Governments suspended their attention to countless crucial problems facing their nation and have instead opted to pay special attention to pieces of cloth?<br /><br />This inter-MSA Niqab campaign will analyse the current debates regarding the niqab. The campaign aims to clarify the misconceptions of the Muslim woman's attire, examine the deeper motives that lie behind the calls to outlaw the niqab and it expose the true meanings behind these attacks and the real targets of these slurs.
