SUMSA Lecture The Hijab: Liberation, Defiance & Obedience to the One God <br /><br />The last decade has seen a blowtorch being applied to the role, duties, and rights of women in Islam. The niqab, hijab, and khimar are nothing more than pieces of cloth, but have come to represent a public debate raging across the world as to the freedom women are afforded in Islam. Often taken to be a debate on mere covering, the public discourse in fact provides a cover to deeper questions - questions of values, liberties, allegiance, and sources of law.
