Gertrud Kottermaier performs the first movement of Mozart's Sonata in C major, KV 545. The artist is playing a Hammerflügel, built in 1785 by Johann Andreas Stein. The instrument is in Mozart's home in Augsburg, Germany.

Wikipedia cites an enthusiastic letter that WA Mozart wrote to his father Leopold in 1777 about the pianos produced by Stein. The article can be reviewed here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johann_Andreas_Stein

I do not recall the circumstances under which I acquired this LP; the disc measures about 6 inches across and may be a demonstration recording -- but it was manufactured in Munich, serial number SRSX 861 110. The back of the jacket is signed by Ms. Kottermaier.

------------------------------------------------------
More Mozart:

Alicia de Larrocha: Rondo a la Turca - Hispavox, Late 1950s / Early 1960s - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvPO77nbE08

Eugene List: Piano Concerto in A major, K 488 - Movement 1 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amPtWKgoZF8
