Brighton Rock returns to the big screen

<p><br /> Graham Greene's 1938 novel Brighton Rock has been made into a film for a second time.<br /> </p><p><br /> Richard Attenborough starred as the villainous Pinkie Brown in the original screen adaptation, John Boulting's 1947 black-and-white thriller.<br /> </p><p><br /> Now the story has been given a 1960s makeover in a new film by British director Rowan Joffe. It stars Sam Riley in the Attenborough role against a backdrop of gang violence on the streets of Brighton between the Mods and the Rockers.<br /> </p><p><br /> Riley is partnered on screen by fellow rising British star Andrea Riseborough as Pinkie's love interest Rose, while Helen Mirren, Andy Serkis and John Hurt provide strong support.<br /> </p><p><br /> Brighton Rock hits cinemas across the UK on Friday February 4.<br /> </p>
