Excerpt from Berkeley School Board meeting on May 11, 2011. This is the full five minutes they spent deciding unanimously that the REALM school site on 8th and Addison would be exempt from Berkeley City Use Permit process (i.e. no Design Review, no Zoning, No Environmental Impact Reports, no Traffic Safety Studies...).<br />Note:<br /><br />- The assumption that traffic is the really the only problem (it is a big one, but far from the only).<br /><br />- They heard that the site quite probably would not meet Berkeley City standards.<br /><br />- School sites apparently do this normally as other sites that they did go through the city process were mentioned.<br /><br />- REALM is planning to do there own traffic study, but there is no reason for the site creators to pay any attention to the results. That is, If the results of the study indicated a large increase in local accident risk, the report can simply be ignored without repercussion.
