Reid Baer FORETELLS the FUTURE from HISTORY<br />-<br />History, Jim, is a mess over and <br />over you see many crows fly far<br />over and land here on the same piece of soil <br />heaped like history, Jim, history: an <br /><br />obsessive compulsive disorder it <br />seems to me I’ve heard that song before, or <br />at least the melody line it’s mine and <br />yours too don’t laugh, Jim, it’ll kill you like <br /><br />a poison pill, maybe not today from<br />your clean bathroom medicine cabinet in <br />your comfortable home but some other<br />harsher step out of your tired covered <br /><br />wagon onto the hard dirt to consider <br />a stable frontier structure dug out of <br />a mammoth earth mound after so many <br />miles and hurt cause a bit of distraction<br /><br />on occasion vile and repulsive <br />to the soul you know too much folly makes<br />a modern man cynical, Jim, and <br />repetition of evil inures the<br /><br />endless master and slave slave and master<br />master and slave relationship wouldn’t you<br />want to end the interminable <br />mistakes of history and finally get<br /><br />your white fingers dirty toughen your soft<br />hands and dig yourself a practical mud<br />hut to climb in and live permanently<br />underneath the wretched recurrence of<br /><br />your history and roll a snug round stone <br />over the open mouth and scribble <br />prophecy on the ground until your welcome<br />death and the good Lord’s resurrection day?<br /><br />-
