"Glee" actress Jane Lynch was quick on her toes as host of the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards, poking fun at the customary introductions that usually accompany award shows.<br/> SOUNDBITE Jane Lynch, host and actress, saying (English):<br/> "As I look out at the vaguely familiar faces of so many people I'm of nodding acquaintance with. There you go."<br/> After a notoriously acerbic performance as the host of the last Goldens, British comic Ricky Gervais delivered a pre-recorded message free of controversy - thanks to some careful editing.<br/> SOUNDBITE Ricky Gervais, comic, saying (English):<br/> "And the Emmy bosses have warned me if I say anything rude they will edit it out and you won't know the difference. What a bunch of cowardly countrymen like Simon Cowell and Piers Morgan. We're proud of you. I've won of few Emmys myself, I've lost a few too. I was up for five last year and I lost them all to other shows that were, In my opinion were absolute 'Schindler's List' but then went on to do TV."<br/> Hollywood star Charlie Sheen made a guest appearance to present the nominees for Outstanding Lead Actor in a comedy series.<br/> Sheen, who had gone on several public rants since being fired from his sitcom "Two and a Half Men" took the opportunity to deliver a message to his former cast and crew mates.<br/> SOUNDBITE Charlie Sheen, actor, saying (English):<br/> "Before I present outstanding lead actor in a comedy series, my old category, I want to take a moment to get something off my chest and say a few words to everybody here from 'Two and a half Men'. From the bottom of my heart, I wish you nothing but the best for this upcoming season."<br/> One of the biggest winners on the night was comedy show "Modern Family" with five Emmys.<br/> Other notable wins on the night included acting accolades for the co-stars of the HBO miniseries "Mildred Pierce", Kate Winslet and Guy Pierce.<br/> But it was British period drama "Downton Abbey" that was the biggest miniseries winner, with a total of six Emmys.<br/> And "Mad Men" made Emmy history, winning Best Drama Series for the fourth year in a row.<br/> Doug MacLaurin, Reuters.
