Shared bicycle hire projects are so 2007: for Paris, public transport is now all about electric cars. The French capital is unveiling a new "Autolib'" car system, whereby subscribers swipe a card at any of some 30 stands around the city, take out a fully electric vehicle, and return it to another stand at their own convenience, paying seven euros per 30 minutes of use.
