Fighting intensifies on the frontline of Sirte - as forces of Libya's interim government try to overcome Muammar Gaddafi loyalists.<br/> The commander of the National Transitional Council forces said Gaddafi loyalists had tried ambushing his fighters from all sides and his men had returned fire.<br/> Commander Abu Leefa.<br/> (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) LIBYAN FORCES COMMANDER ABU LEEFA:<br/> "We are responding to their fire, we are not entering Sirte today."<br/> The NTC fighters fired from anti-aircraft machine guns mounted on their trucks - and launched rocket-propelled grenades at the Gaddafi loyalists.<br/> By Monday afternoon, at least 12 rebel fighters injured in the fight were transported to a field hospital.<br/> Medics tended to the wounded at a makeshift hospital located in a mosque - about a mile from the frontline.<br/> Over the past two weeks, anti-Gaddafi forces had launched a steady fight for Sirte - trying to take over Gaddafi's birthplace - and one of the last loyalists city's in Libya.<br/> Sarah Irwin, Reuters.
