PLEASE NOTE: EDIT CONTAINS CONVERTED 4:3 MATERIAL<br/> ROUGH CUT ONLY - NO REPORTER NARRATION<br/> These are some of the latest images of the Hudson Volcano's activity in the far south of Chile.<br/> The volcano spewed a jet of steam up to a kilometre into the air on Thursday (October 27) raising fears that it is building up to a full scale eruption.<br/> The volcano's alert status has been raised to Level 5 in anticipation of a major eruption in the coming hours or days.<br/> More than 100 residents in the sparsely populated area have been evacuated but more than a dozen others are still refusing to leave.<br/> The volcano last erupted in 1991.<br/> Its recent activity follows a series of eruptions by other volcanoes in Chile.<br/> A volcano in the Puyehue-Cordon Caulle chain erupted in June after lying dormant for decades.<br/> In 2008 the Chaiten volcano erupted spectacularly for the first time in thousands of years, spewing out molten rock and a vast cloud of ash that reached the stratosphere.<br/> Chile's chain of about 2, 000 volcanoes is the second largest after Indonesia. About a quarter of them are potentially active.
