The great masterpieces of painting are living beings. They have the capacity to influence our thoughts and minds and to modify reality itself.
Two young women visit the Louvre just before taking the train to celebrate one of the girls' wedding engagement. They pass in front of a Renaissance painting, that of Gabrielle d'Estrées, by an anonymous painter at the end of the sixteenth century. Just a quick glance, but however the painting suddenly starts to mimic situations and begins to play a real role in their lives. Like a magical catalyst it irresistably attracts the two girls into a sensual dreamlike state.
This short film gives Richard Texier the opportunity to explore the influence of past masterpieces on our contemporary imagination and to relate their capacity to direct our collective unconsciousness.
