The shipping container came from Cape Town, South Africa and is believed to have been en route to other nearby countries.

Other than the horns, 758 ivory chopsticks and 127 ivory bracelets were also in the shipment.

Rhinos are hunted for their rumored cure-all horns, despite the fact that horns are scientifically proven to have no medicinal value. Myths say that rhino horns can cure everything from fever to cancer.

A seizure of 33 horns is a record high for Hong Kong customs who have only ever caught one or two horns being smuggled on an individual basis.

Although no arrests were made, authorities will investigate the case.
