ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)
STORY: Taylor Swift, Lady Antebellum and Mary J. Blige took time to talk to the media backstage at American Music Awards.
Taylor Swift won Artist of the Year, Favorite Female Country Artist and Favorite Country Album.
Swift shared her feelings about taking home the AMA top prize for the second time.
"I just am so shocked and stunned," said the 21-year-old singer. "And absolutely out of my mind happy about this. And, you know, the fact that the fans have been there for me. You know, more and more each year. It just blows my mind."
Swift also had some advice for those wishing to follow in her footsteps.
"The advice that I would give would be, you know, see your hero and to get inspiration from all your heroes. But try to be something completely different from all your heroes. You know, for me, writing my own songs was a way to create what I wanted to create. And music about my life, and that way it kind of became a diary every time I put out a new record."
Charles Kelley of Lady Antebellum talked about winning the favorite country band, duo, or group award.
"It's been really cool to feel like we're representing the country genre," said Kelley, 30. "And there's so many artists. I mean The Band Perry performed tonight. A great performance. Taylor Swift. All these artists. I think the genre has just really opened itself up a lot. The sound of it is really reaching a little more of a contemporary audience, which is great. Because the sound is evolving. There's still very traditional country music as well that works. It's just, I don't know, it's got a wide range of different styles in the genre. That's why it's appealing. So I think that's why it's appealing I guess to so many."
Mary J. Blige talked about the key to her success.
"I just try not to chase and listen to the opinions of people of what I'm supposed to be. I just know what I am supposed to be and that's me."
Blige, 40, is releasing a new album in early December.
The AMAs is among the most widely watched of the annual U.S. music industry showcases held at the end of each year.
