A retired Australian soldier was kidnapped in a southern Philippine island on Monday.<br/> Warren Richard Rodwell was taken at gunpoint from his house in Ipil town, by at least six men.<br/> They then made their getaway by speedboat.<br/> Security officials suspect that Islamist militants from the Abu Sayyaf group are behind the abduction.<br/> Police said blood-stained beach footwear were found near Rodwell's front door, indicating a struggle. A pistol was also found inside the house.<br/> Rodwell has been living in Zamboanga Sibugay province for six months, where Islamist militants and criminal gangs operate.<br/> The Abu Sayyaf group has in the past kidnapped several foreigners in the restive region of Mindanao.<br/> Michaela Cabrera, Reuters.
