Clashes break out between protesters and Israeli soldiers at the construction site for a controversial barrier in the West Bank.<br/> Around 200 Palestinian and international protesters took part in the protest with Israeli soldiers using tear gas and stun grenades to disperse them.<br/> Israel started building the proposed 720km barrier - a mix of metal fencing, barbed wire and concrete walls - in 2002 following a wave of Palestinian suicide bombings.<br/> The Israeli government calls it a ''security fence" and says it is vital to stop further bombings.<br/> Palestinians however call it an apartheid wall and says it amounts to a land grab.<br/> In 2004, the International Court of Justice in the Hague declared the proposed barrier illegal.<br/> Sunita Rappai, Reuters
