They inhaled a large amount of dirty material and water in their lungs which caused oedema and suffocation."<br/> There are conflicting reports of how many children were on the bus but none suggest it was overcrowded.<br/> Xinhua news agency put the figure at 29.<br/> The accident is the latest in a series that have unleashed public fury across China.<br/> Rural areas of the country especially are notorious for transporting children in packed, ageing and poorly maintained vans and trucks.<br/> Paul Chapman, Reuters
