Across the Yalu river from North Korea, all looked usual in the Chinese border town of Dandong, one day after the news of Kim Jong-il's death.<br/> Vehicles crossed the bridge linking the two countries, and the border was opened as usual at 9 am.<br/> Chinese were shocked at the news of Kim's death, some said they hope to see the North open up.<br/> (SOUNDBITE) (Mandarin) LOCAL RESIDENT LI LONG SAYING:<br/> "I think North Korea will speed up its reform and its economy will take off very quickly. I feel so because there have been some obvious changes in North Korea in the past two years. They have tried to open up some places, which just proved my point. I am sure its economy will take off in the future."<br/> North Korean community in Dandong organised a mourning ceremony for Kim.<br/> North Koreans laid flowers in front of Kim's photo, and many knelt on the floor crying.<br/> With an 11-day mourning period in effect for him, the funeral of Kim Jong-il will be held on the 28th of December.<br/> Sophia Soo, Reuters.
