Gunpowder warehouse blast kills 17 in Myanmar

ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)<br/> STORY: Firefighters tried to tame a giant blaze at a gunpowder warehouse in Myanmar on Thursday (December 29) but were unable to save 17 people who died in the fire.<br/> Police and fire officials said 80 people were also injured and among the dead were three fireman.<br/> The explosion caused a massive inferno and spewed smoke that was only brought under control by late morning, officials said.<br/> A police officer, who declined to be named, told Reuters 12 men and five women had been confirmed dead and further deaths were expected.<br/> The blast occurred at around 2 a.m. in Mingalar Taung Nyunt Township in the east of Yangon, Myanmar's former capital and its main commercial center.
