Tale of two Captains grips Italy

2012-01-18 1 Dailymotion

Coast Guard Captain Gregorio De Falco has become a national hero in Italy, credited with saving the nation's honour for ordering Captain Francesco Schettino to do his professional duty after the Costa Concordia struck a rock off the coast of Italy.
Infrared footage shows passengers lined up along the stricken cruise liner waiting to be evacuated.
And in this audio recording provided by an Italian newspaper, you can hear Captain Schettino saying that he is on a lifeboat under the ship, and De Falco yelling at him to "Get onboard the ship and coordinate the rescue on board."
Schettino has been placed under house arrest at his home in Meta di Sorrento.
He is accused of multiple manslaughter, causing a shipwreck by sailing too close to shore, and abandoning ship before all his passengers and crew had been evacuated.
Rescuers have found 11 bodies since the accident took place five days ago.
At least 23 people are still missing from the 4,200 passengers and crew aboard when the ship struck a rock off the small Italian island of Giglio.
Relatives of the missing have started to arrive on the island, although hopes of finding anyone else alive have all but disappeared.
Nick Rowlands, Reuters.
