Israel's Transportation Ministry has approved the import of 13 Renault Fluence electric vehicles by Better Place Company in order to start testing their infrastructure. The cars are due to arrive within the next couple of weeks. They got a special permit to enter the country to test out the charge spots which already exist at several locations, including at Better Place's visitors center near Tel Aviv. Better Place is looking to begin commercial operations in 2011 under the condition of being approved by Israeli standards. Israel will be the first country where the company's system is fully deployed, to be followed shortly thereafter by Denmark. Better Place was founded by Israeli entrepreneur Shai Agassi and is based in California and Israel. The company's main objective is to reduce global dependency on fuel by accelerating deployment of electric vehicle infrastructure and facilities.
