It's a good start to the year for Geoffrey Rush.<br/> The actor was awarded Australian of the Year for 2012 in the country's capital Canberra for his contribution to the arts.<br/> Australia's Prime Minister made the honour:<br/> SOUNDBITE Julia Gillard, Australian Prime Minister, saying (English):<br/> "Ladies and gentlemen, Geoffrey Rush."<br/> Rush shot to global fame for his Oscar-winning performance in the 1996 film "Shine". Over 15 years later, and his collection of accolades is growing:<br/> SOUNDBITE Geoffrey Rush, actor, saying (English):<br/> "They tell me this one is eight kilograms heavy.
