Floods prompt Australia aid airlift

Australia's military was preparing to deliver aid on Friday to parts of the east hit by summer floods.<br/> <br />The New South Wales town of Moree is the recipient. This is what the town looked like ahead of the supply drop.<br/> <br />About a quarter of its population of around 8, 000 have taken refuge at evacuation shelters.<br/> <br />In New South Wales and Queensland more than 11, 000 people have been cut off the floods.<br/> <br />There's worse in store for some.<br/> <br />The Bureau of Meteorology's issued a severe weather warning for parts of Queensland state.<br/> <br />It said heavy rains, intense at times, threatened to further swell already-overflowing rivers and could trigger localised flash floods.<br/> <br />There was better news for New South Wales where another severe weather warning was cancelled.<br/> <br />Both states suffered severe floods a year ago which killed about 35 people and swamped 30, 000 homes.<br/> <br />Coal mines, roads, bridges and railway lines were also damaged, hampering Australia's economic growth.<br/> <br />Paul Chapman, Reuters
