Whitney Houston dies, age 48

EDITORS NOTE: CONTAINS CONVERTED 4:3 MATERIAL<br/> <br />Grammy-winning singer and actress Whitney Houston has died in a Beverly Hills hotel room in Los Angeles.<br/> <br />She was 48.<br/> <br />Houston's popularity soar in the 1980s and 1990s with consecutive No. 1 hits.<br/> <br />This included her smash single "I Will Always Love You," from the soundtrack of the feature film "The Bodyguard," in which she co-starred with Kevin Costner<br/> <br />She had recently finished filming "Sparkle", due for release in August.<br/> <br />The winner of six Grammy Awards is survived by Bobbi Kristina, her 18-year-old daughter with ex-husband Bobby Brown.<br/> <br />They divorced after a turbulent drug-fuelled 14 years together.<br/> <br />The last 10 years of Houston's life were dominated with drug use, rumours of relapses and trips to rehab.<br/> <br />On Saturday, emergency personnel found Houston's body in the hotel room.<br/> <br />She was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m. local time.<br/> <br />Police said there were no obvious signs of criminal intent at the scene, and her death is under investigation.<br/> <br />(SOUNDBITE) (English) PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICER AT THE BEVERLY HILLS POLICE DEPARTMENT, MARK ROSEN, SAYING:<br/> <br />"We'll conclude our own investigation. I don't know how long that will take.
