Shocked fans line the pavement outside Whitney Houston's Los Angeles hotel upon news of the singer's death.<br/> <br />The 48-year-old died at the Beverly Hilton around 3:55 p.m. local time, Saturday.<br/> <br />(SOUNDBITE) (English) MONET MITCHELL SAYING:<br/> <br />"It's just devastating that she's gone. She's one of the greatest singers of all time. I've listened to her since I was a little girl. I just can't believe it. My prayers go out to her and her family."<br/> <br />(SOUNDBITE) (English) BEVERLY ST. JAMES SAYING:<br/> <br />"I'm sure this entire country is feeling what I'm feeling right now. And I truly miss this iconic woman because she has played a valuable role in my life."<br/> <br />Her body was removed from the hotel Sunday where she was likely attending a pre-Grammy party hosted by her mentor Clive Davis.<br/> <br />The singer herself was the winner of multiple awards, including for her iconic hit "I will always love you."<br/> <br />But after topping the charts early in her career, Houston suffered from years of drug abuse, rehab and relapses.<br/> <br />In a 2002 interview she admitted using marijuana, cocaine, alcohol and prescription drugs.<br/> <br />Police are still investigating the cause of her death.<br/> <br />Lindsey Parietti, Reuters
