A U.S. embassy employee has been released, after being held for questioning in Pakistan on Tuesday.<br/> <br />The American was detained before attempting to board a plane from the northwestern city of Peshawar to the capital Islamabad.<br/> <br />He was held after airport security allegedly discovered bullets in his luggage.<br/> <br />The U.S. citizen is an embassy employee based in Islamabad, but was temporarily assigned to the Peshawar consulate.<br/> <br />(SOUNDBITE) (Urdu) POLICE OFFICIAL, ZULFIQAR KHAN, SAYING:<br/> <br />"An American man came to Peshawar airport to fly to Islamabad. Airport Security Force personnel discovered the magazine and a few bullets in his luggage. The ASF handed them over to police. Further investigations into the man's diplomatic status are continuing."<br/> <br />Police officers had earlier said they would hold the man until his identity had been verified by the foreign office in the capital.<br/> <br />U.S. embassy staff said they were looking into the incident.<br/> <br />Travis Brecher, Reuters
