SONGKHLA, Feb 13 – The lawyer of well-known labour activist Somyot Prueksakasemsuk said his client has been mistreated and called for fair treatment of his client after a witness for the plaintiff in the activist’s lese majeste case failed to appear at court in Songkhla Monday.<br /><br />Mr Somyot is on trial accused of breaking Article 112 of Thailand’s Criminal Code, the so-called ‘Lese Majeste’ law. He has been in prison since April 30, 2011 and has been moved from city to city across Thailand for a series of prosecution witness hearings.<br /><br />The accused appeared at Songkhla provincial court Monday but the witness for the plaintiff, Chawan Saeyae, did not appear at court.<br /><br />Instead he informed the court that he now lives in Pathum Thani where he is a Thammasat University student at its Rangsit Campus. He said he is ready to give a statement at the Criminal Court in Ratchapisek Road in Bangkok.
