The Crypt in Saint-Joseph-des-Carmes Church (Paris, France)

Videos and clips were permitted during this free guided tour, which took about two hours.

You can just visit the church on Rue Vaugirard in Paris in the 6th arrondissement. It has a post-Reformation, austere architecture but inside has some excellent Baroque work, much carried out by Flemish artists. Bernini designed two of the altar chapels.

The Luxembourg gardens are nearby, and except for Sundays, there is a lot of shopping going on in this upscale area.

There are secret passages in this church, one of which saved the lives of some twenty priests during an infamous massacre during The Reign of Terror. The clergy here were seen as counter-revolutionaires, spies and criminals.

There is so much history and information on this place, I urge you to look it up yourself if you are interested. There is a lovely garden here and actually, you can quietly gain access to it during the day via a street entrance. The bloody wall is only for special tours, as is the crypt. We paid nothing for the tour and the guide was very good. It is nice to give a two euro coin as a tip.
