A second day of demonstrations in the Afghan capital Kabul after copies of the Koran were burned at a NATO base.<br/> <br />Furious protesters throw stones at a U.S. army base.<br/> <br />They chant, "Death to America!"<br/> <br />(SOUNDBITE) (PASHTO) PROTESTER SHAHBAZ GULL SAYING:<br/> <br />"You criminals burning our Koran in our homes, why have you burned the Koran, are you displaying your power by burning the Koran? God is great."<br/> <br />Police fired shots to disperse the demonstrators.<br/> <br />Firefighters were called in to put out a fire set in a housing compound used by foreign contractors.<br/> <br />They also used water hoses to try to break up the angry mob.<br/> <br />At least 26 people were wounded in protests which took place in various locations across Afghanistan.<br/> <br />U.S. Defence Secretary Leon Panetta issued an apology for "inappropriate treatment" of copies of the Islamic holy book.<br/> <br />But similar incidents in the past have caused deep divisions and resentment among Afghans towards the tens of thousands of foreign troops in Afghanistan.<br/> <br />Nick Rowlands, Reuters.
