Hollywood's newest heart-throb Taylor Kitsch looks at ease taking on the title role of Disney's "John Carter".

But speaking at the film's UK premiere in London, the 30-year-old revealed how exhausting making a movie can be.

SOUNDBITE: Actor Taylor Kitsch, saying (English):

"I mean you're in arguably every scene of the film. You shoot 106 out of 106 days so - it wears on you. Six day weeks when you're working 15 hours a day, it chips away, but it's worth it."

Based on the classic novel "A Princess of Mars" by Tarzan writer Edgar Rice, the story follows ex-military captain John Carter as he finds himself transported to Mars.

The action doesn't stop as he becomes embroiled in a conflict between the various nations of the planet - whose leaders include this scary looking creature played by Willem Dafoe, and to be fair it sounds like he might have had a tougher time on set than Taylor.

SOUNDBITE: Willem Dafoe, saying (English):

''I had to wear stilts and a camera on my head and sometimes arm extensions and sometimes an extra pair of arms and lots of things to do this so it was interesting."

What did he expect taking on Andrew Stanton's sci fi project!? It's the Oscar winners directorial debut, and he too found filming an experience quite like no other.

SOUNDBITE: Andrew Stanton, director, saying (English):

"It was like night and day. I feel like a person who has only had an office job and has never been camping in their life. I mean I was outdoors for so many days in the desert you just kind of had to learn to endure. But that was part of the thrill. I didn't realise I was an outdoorsy person and I realise I am."

See their hard work up on the big screen when "John Carter" opens in UK and US cinemas on March 9.

Sarah Mills, Reuters
