Floodwaters continue to wreak havoc in eastern Australia.<br/> <br />The town of Forbes, in the central western part of New South Wales, is the latest settlement hit by the deluge.<br/> <br />A local river is on the rise, and is expected to peak at over 10 metres.<br/> <br />Local media said state emergency services have asked local residents to leave their homes.<br/> <br />In the town of Griffith, which has a population of about 25 thousand, hundreds have already been evacuated.<br/> <br />The heaviest rain in 38 years has swamped farmland in the town known for its grapes and cotton.<br/> <br />Meteorologists say the flooding that's been sweeping across eastern Australia is the result of the La Niña weather pattern.<br/> <br />Travis Brecher, Reuters
