Russian Grannies Sing to Build New Village Church

The Babushkas are getting ready for this year's contest in Baku.<br /><br />A singing group of babushkas from Russia's remote village of Buranovo, have been elected to represent the country in the Eurovision song contest 2012.<br /><br />[...]<br /><br />After their triumph at the national contest the grannies toured France, Estonia and major Russian cities.<br /><br />Their song "Party for Everybody" in Udmurt and English languages will now represent Russia at the Eurovision finals to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan on May 22-26.<br /><br />[Zoya Dorodova, Buranovo Babushakas' Participant]:<br />"Not scared? Of course we are scared. We are shaking. (We are worried) if we pass, (we are worried) about the concert. It's scary. The heart is shivering."<br /><br />An amateur group of village babushkas, with several over 70 years old, came on top of 24 other professional acts, including well-established Russian pop stars.<br /><br />Back home the grannies returned to their daily lives, cooking dinners for their families and looking after their cows and goats.<br /><br />After singing their songs for thousands of people, the grannies continue rehearsing at a local community center.<br /><br />They composed the text for their song all together, making the words as simple as their daily life.<br /><br />[...]<br /><br />The grannies have already gained popularity in Russia and in many countries of Europe.<br /><br />They believe that this time they will be lucky to win over the Eurovision audience.<br /><br />[Galina Koneva, Buranovo Babushakas' Participant]:<br />"We want to have a longer life. They say that those who move, who sing, they live longer."<br /><br />The grannies from Buranovo say their primary objective is to raise enough money to build a new church in their village.
