This is the soldier accused of massacring 16 Afghan civilians.<br/> <br />He's been named as 38-year-old U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Robert Bales.<br/> <br />No other details have been released.<br/> <br />He was expected to arrive at the Fort Leavenworth army base in Kansas on Friday where he'll be held in maximum security.<br/> <br />Bales has not yet been charged.<br/> <br />Commanding General David Rodriguez of U.S. Army Forces Command on Friday gave his reaction to the killings of mostly women and children.<br/> <br />SOUNDBITE: GENERAL RODRIGUEZ, COMMANDING GENERAL OF U.S. ARMY FORCES COMMAND, SAYING (English):<br/> <br />"It's a tragedy. We are disappointed that it happened and shocked, just like everybody else. We have a tradition of doing what's right and we'll do it in this situation too, as we find out and get to the bottom of this situation."<br/> <br />In a further sign of the damage to U.S.-Afghan relations, Afghan President Hamid Karzai is accusing the Pentagon of failing to co-operate fully with an investigation into the incident.<br/> <br />Paul Chapman, Reuters
