Brazil's former President Lula announced on Wednesday that his throat cancer had been cured, after successful treatment.<br/> <br />(SOUNDBITE) (Portuguese) BRAZIL'S FORMER PRESIDENT LUIZ INACIO LULA DA SILVA, SAYING:<br/> <br />"Today I received the most important news that any human being could receive after a five-month battle against cancer. I received the news that we were able to beat this cancer. So I would like to thank God right now, because without Him, this would probably have not been possible."<br/> <br />Sao Paulo's Sirio Libanes Hospital said latest tests on the 66-year-old show no visible signs of a tumour.<br/> <br />Lula is Brazil's most popular politician, known for his anti-poverty programs and credited for the country's strong economic growth in recent years.<br/> <br />He said would return to politics because Brazil must keep growing and millions and millions more should be given a chance to be part of the country's growing middle class.<br/> <br />Michaela Cabrera, Reuters.
